A New Approach
Most players dread preseason training, and with good reason. Endless runs, no work with the ball, and a punishing schedule can all add up to fatigue and burn out before the season even starts. We're taking a different approach to preseason training for Lansing soccer and we're excited about getting your players involved. First, though, the basics; preseason practices begin Monday January 25th and will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 PM on the turf football field. They will continue until tryouts being on February 29th. These sessions will be player led, but read on for more information about what to expect.
Philosophy
We firmly believe that a healthy mix of conditioning and touches on the ball are critically important to preparing our team for the upcoming season. We know that we can accomplish the dual goals of preparing physically and as players with a good schedule and a plan. In general, each week of preseason will happen as follows:
- Monday - Skills and Small sided games (SSGs)
- Tuesday - Conditioning (with the ball and without)
- Wednesday - Skills and SSGs
- Thursday - Conditioning (with the ball and without)
- Friday - Skills and SSGs
Plan
The coaches have put together a training plan, week by week, for the preseason and shared it with the girls who will be in charge of organizing those sessions. The plan contains a warm up, and then the detailed drills or routines to be performed that day. Want a look for yourself? Here's the link:

Participation
Preseason sessions are not mandatory but HIGHLY encouraged as they will ensure your player is more completely prepared for the coming season. We understand, however, that multi-sport athletes may be finishing up their current seasons and those of course take priority. Players who are still working with their club teams MAY attend preseason sessions without fear of affecting their eligibility and it is encouraged that they do so if they're available
